When first entering El Jacalito, you can't help but be struck by how "off" it looks. It has no ambiance whatsoever. It looks more like a diner than a mexican food restaurant. None of that would matter if everything else was great. Unfortunately, everything else was "meh." The menu seems to lack any vegitarian friendly items. Usually mexican food is easy for vegitarians like myself and my wife. This place seems to be the exeption. The two plates we both ordered both had meat that was not mentioned on the menu. This will not be a problem to carnivores of course, but Austin is a very Vegitarian friendly city. This is the first place I've gone where there was nothing for me to eat since moving here. Even if you like meat, the food is mediocre from what I sampled. Not good and not bad just standard. The chips were the cheap kind you get at Wal Mart. They were neither fresh not tasty. Just cold and bland. The salsa was nice and the prices were not too bad, but I'd have paid more for a bette
