Normally a Marriott hotel provides an almost guaranteed level of quality regardless of location. The Marriott in downtown Kansas City, however, is an exception to this rule. The hotel is dated (stuck in the 1980s) but at the time of my stay it appeared some of the facilities were being updated. The hallways with the new carpet and wallpaper were dark and I felt a little concerned about safety. The front desk staff in the "Muehlebach Tower" were young and seemed to not care very much about being polite or being able to answer questions. I had one clerk at checkout snap at me. I will avoid this hotel in the future and try the Hotel Phillips next door.
